As an emerging artist based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, I'm William West, and I've always felt a deep connection to creativity and the natural world. However, as I witness the rapid changes our planet is undergoing, I can't help but feel a sense of urgency. The alarming decline of our environment and its wildlife has spurred me to action.

Growing up surrounded by various animal companions and embracing a vegan lifestyle for over a decade, my passion for animals runs deep. It's this passion that drives my artistic endeavors. I aim to shed light on the plight of our world's top predators, many of whom are teetering on the brink of extinction.

Through my artwork, I seek to raise awareness of this crisis. My charcoal drawings, punctuated by vibrant bursts of color in the eyes and noses of these majestic creatures, serve as a visual testament to their beauty and vulnerability. Each portrait is a dramatic close-up, emerging from the darkness into the light—a symbolic representation of the stark contrast between extinction and the thriving biodiversity we strive to preserve.

My journey as an artist began with a single charcoal drawing of a Snow Leopard in October of 2023. Despite the initial challenges of working with charcoal, I was captivated by its ability to capture subtle gradients and evoke deep emotions. This first piece inspired me to continue, and I've since dedicated myself to honing my craft and expanding my artistic vision.

With each drawing, I aim not only to capture the essence of these endangered predators but also to spark conversations and inspire action. As I embark on this artistic journey, I am committed to making a tangible difference. That's why I pledge to donate 15% of the proceeds from my artwork to conservation projects dedicated to protecting these vulnerable species.
